Current Nominations

  • Ashlyne MacRae

    Province Nominated: Nova Scotia
    Date Nominated: August 2023
    Reason Nominated:
Ashlyne has come so far in the Veterinary medicine field. She started as a VA and worked extremely hard, she was practically doing the work of a technician anyways. Ashlyne finally decided to go back to school and become a certified RVT. Once she graduated she found her perfect clinic. She worked there for a few years with having a big interest in anesthesia, she became very familiar with all things anesthesia, she then became the lead technician, then also became the hiring manager. As Ashlyne had taken on the leadership role to teach new student's practicing the vet med field, new employees and help educate clients, Ashlyne knew there was something more she could do. She found she liked teaching and is patient with others so she started to teach Veterinary Assistants expanding both theirs and her mind.

  • Daniel Abbott

    Province Nominated: Newfoundland
    Date Nominated: September 2023
    Reason Nominated:
I am nominating Daniel for the Veterinary Technology Student award as he is both a full time student AND a full time worker. He brings the fun to work and is able to lift all our spirits in a heartbeat. He is always smiling and helping others. He is so organized, quick, and efficient both in his work and his studies. I don’t know when he finds time to sleep between staying late at work each night and then studying as well as taking his tests and exams afterwards! He is always looking out and recognizing others, however he deserves to be recognized and appreciated. He is the best!

  • Delaney Barnes

    Province Nominated: Newfoundland
    Date Nominated: September 2023
    Reason Nominated:
I am nominating Delaney Barnes for the EVTA Technician of the Year Award. I'm nominating Delaney because she exemplifies everything that a veterinary technician should be. She is a kind, compassionate, empathetic person who goes out of her way to make visits better for both patients and clients. She upholds a gold standard level of care, and is passionate about patient advocacy. She is never afraid to speak up for her patient's needs, and will initiate and engage in productive conversations with her co-workers (both DVMs and fellow RVTs) to ensure that every patient in her care is treated in the best way possible. Her passion for the field is second to none, and this is evident in her love of education. She loves to learn new things and further her own education, but also enjoys teaching others. She has been a role model for every technician student that she has encountered. There is never a dumb question in her eyes, and she has never looked down on another for being uneducated about a topic. Instead, she takes the time to educate and help those around her to grow. Her warm and caring nature makes everyone comfortable with approaching her to ask questions, especially those who are new to the field and her workplace. She is always happy to lend a hand to those around her. Whether through education or physical help with a task, she rarely says no. This may be her downfall, as sometimes she may spread herself a bit too thin. However, she is the most reliable technician I've had the pleasure of meeting. She will always follow her word and complete every task assigned to her in the most efficient, caring manner. Finally, Delaney thrives and exceeds all expectations in client communication. She is always able to keep calm and focused during sensitive and emergent situations, allowing her to be an incredible support for pet owners. She is incredibly knowledgeable, which, along with her deep level of empathy, allows her to speak to owners confidently and with compassion for the situation at hand. Once again, her warm presence brings feelings of comfort to owners in their most trying moments, always met with a smiling face and a helping hand. I commend Delaney for everything that she is, and everything that she does. Delaney is a person that I absolutely cannot thank enough for everything that she's done for me in the time that I've known her. She has been a teacher, a guide, a mentor, and a friend. I couldn't possibly think of someone more deserving of this award and the recognition that goes along with it.

  • Dr. Karie Bryenton

    Province Nominated: Newfoundland
    Date Nominated: September 2023
    Reason Nominated:
I am nominating Karie for the veterinary recognition award. She goes out of her way to make sure both RVTs and VA’s at our clinic don’t burn out, and aren’t kept late working overtime each night. She will advocate for her patients health as well as ours, always checking in with us and making sure we are okay before dealing with a stressful procedure, as well as checking in with us all afterwards as well. She tells us everyday how much she appreciates our work, and even tries to surprise us with some homemade snacks or order us takeout after a long day. She is the best!

  • Melissa Pender

    Province Nominated: Newfoundland
    Date Nominated: September 2023
    Reason Nominated:
I am nominating Melissa for the veterinary technology student award Melissa is currently a student, a full time worker at our clinic, AND a mother. She will come to work a 10 hour shift, go home and cook her children supper, and then study and write her exams. I truly don’t know how she does it!! She excels in all of her classes, and ends up teaching me (RVT) so much more about the field! I appreciate her so much and love working with her, she puts her heart into her job and her studies. To be a full time student in this field is one thing, but to also be a full time worker AND a full time mother of two children?! She has true super powers. She deserves this award.

  • Stephanie Hall

    Province Nominated: Nova Scotia
    Date Nominated: August 2023
    Reason Nominated:
She has been an RVT for 18 years and continues to accell and gain knowledge to better the medicine she provides. She is always looking for ways to utilize the technicians to allow the DVMs to be available for other appointments and make the day run smoothly. She is always willing to help out and mentor young RVTs (such as myself) and advocates for them when needed. You can always tell when she's working; her laugh radiates through the clinic! She's always smiling and laughing, trying make everyone's day just that little bit brighter. Everyone who knows her looks up to her as our "tech mom". I believe she highly deserving of recognition as the wonderful person and amazing technician she is!
